Hitachi has announced a 500GB 2.5" hard drive for notebook computers. It will be available in February for about $400. What can one store in 500 GB? 25,000 camera RAW files from the latest high-res cameras (20 MB each). Notebook drives have been lagging desktop drives for some years now, with the largest drive available for a typical Dell laptop being 250GB.
The drive is 12.5mm thick, which precludes its use in the thinnest travel notebooks.
